- The political scientist expressed concern about the United States because of the lag in the arms race from China.

The head of the Pentagon's policy directorate, Elbridge Colby, fears that the United States will lag behind China in the arms race. This was stated on July 2 in an interview with Izvestia by American political scientist Malek Dudakov, commenting on Washington's decision to suspend the supply of anti-aircraft missiles and precision-guided munitions to Ukraine.
"Colby is one of those who fears that America will lag behind China in the arms race, because the US military machine is mired in a large number of conflicts around the world: Ukraine, the Middle East, the defense of Israel, and the confrontation with Iran," the source said.
According to the expert, in this regard, it is necessary to save limited military resources and redirect them to the main priority area — Asia.
"As for how the suspension of supplies will affect the situation on the battlefield, of course, it will have a negative impact, because Ukraine already has an acute shortage of the same air defense systems. That is, it will become more and more difficult to fight Russia, with Russia's dominance in the air, for example," Dudakov stressed.
He drew attention to the problems with arsenals in Europe, noting that the Europeans can supply Ukraine with something, but they have great difficulties with restoring stocks and the inability to quickly increase weapons production. Therefore, according to the political scientist, they will not be able to compensate for the remaining American tranches.
NBC News reported on July 2 that the head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, decided to suspend the supply of dozens of interceptor missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, more than 100 Hellfire missiles, dozens of Stinger missiles, more than 250 guided precision-guided GMLRS projectiles and other types of weapons to Ukraine. The pause may last until the assessment of American weapons is completed. If there is a shortage of ammunition, the delay may be extended for a longer time.
