The talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and French leader Emmanuel Macron may have an impact on Paris' support for Kiev. This was stated by political analyst Alexander Asafov in an interview with Izvestia on July 2.

"Despite the lengthy conversation between Putin and Macron, I think this will not affect the negotiation process on Ukraine in any way. This may affect Macron's position on support for the Kiev Nazi regime, given the weakening of support for the United States," the source said.

He added that the French president has ideas to replace American supplies, but so far they remain at the level of concepts with a low probability of implementation.

"Having started to restore relations with Russia from a negative value, he may have to reconsider all this. Again, Macron's position towards Russia was quite friendly before all the events," Asafov stressed, recalling his participation in the St. Petersburg Economic Forum earlier.

The political scientist noted that for many countries of the world, except the UK, maintaining good relations with Russia is an important priority. According to him, it is more profitable to develop cooperation with the Russian state, including trade, than to be in a state of conflict.

"I do not rule out that negotiations may become more frequent, some kind of constructive position may take place, but Macron may, of course, go back into silence for a long time," Asafov said.

In addition, he added that the French president is trying to show his independence, including by communicating with Russia.

Putin and Macron had a telephone conversation on July 1. During the conversation, the heads of state noted that Moscow and Paris bear a special responsibility for maintaining peace in the Middle East and preserving the nuclear non-proliferation regime. In addition, the leaders of the countries discussed the Ukrainian conflict.
