The law on the nationalization of the "Electric Networks of Armenia" was adopted in the first reading in Armenia

The Armenian Parliament has adopted in the first reading a bill on the nationalization of the Electric Grid of Armenia company, which belongs to businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan. This was reported on July 2 in the Telegram channel Azatutyun.

It is specified that 65 people voted for the bill, and 30 opposed it. The second reading is scheduled to be held in a few hours. This will be necessary to introduce amendments to the draft law.

According to the businessman's lawyer, Aram Vardevanyan, his client was taken into custody. He believes that this was done for the unhindered nationalization of the Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC.

"I can say that no action is taking place, it was just necessary to arrest Samvel Karapetyan in order to interfere in the affairs of the Electric Grids. I can say that my statements are based on a direct promise made by the head of the Armenian government [Nikol Pashinyan] on June 17. Can I make such statements? I think I can," TASS quoted the lawyer as saying.

Earlier, on June 18, lawyer Liana Gasparyan reported that the Yerevan court had arrested Karapetyan for two months. According to her, the businessman's defense will challenge the arrest and fight for the rights of the defendant. It is specified that the businessman was charged with calling for the seizure of power in Armenia.
