Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Wednesday, July 2, threatened to sue and dismiss employees of Electric Grids of Armenia for political activity amid the arrest of the company's owner, businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan.

"The employees of Electric Grids of Armenia, who are engaged in political fraud, will be dismissed in July. Those who force employees of the Electric Grids of Armenia to participate in rallies will also be held accountable," Pashinyan wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

He added that those employees who "resist the first two groups" and remain faithful to their work duties will allegedly have no problems.

David Kazinyan, Acting Director General of Electric Grids of Armenia, said on June 30 that the bill on nationalization of the company owned by Karapetyan was illiterate. He noted that the company intends to apply to the relevant international authorities to protect its interests. According to Kazinyan, Karapetyan will not make a deal in exchange for his freedom.

Karapetyan's detention became known on June 18, he was charged with calling for the seizure of power in Armenia and arrested for two months. Armenian politician Arman Abovyan called the businessman's detention an attempt to weaken the influence of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC).
