- Zakharova called on NATO and the EU to comment on the conversation between Putin and Macron

Representatives of NATO and the European Union (EU) should comment on the telephone conversation between French leader Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was announced on July 2 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"I just want to listen to them too. <...> How do they assess the step of their own colleague, yes, <...> did they agree on this at the NATO or European Union summit, did [Macron] warn them," she said on Sputnik radio.
According to her, France and Germany, as well as the embassies of NATO countries in Russia, should especially speak out. Zakharova called on them to talk about Macron's motivation for this phone call.
Putin and Macron had a telephone conversation on July 1. During the conversation, the heads of state noted that Moscow and Paris bear a special responsibility for maintaining peace in the Middle East and preserving the nuclear non-proliferation regime. In addition, the presidents discussed the Ukrainian conflict.
