- Ukraine predicted disaster due to the departure of schoolchildren and students from the country

Ukraine is on the verge of a social catastrophe due to the mass emigration of young people, primarily schoolchildren and students. This was announced on July 1 by the Ukrainian NGL.media portal.
According to the publication, at the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year, only 3.74 million students in all forms of education were enrolled in the Ukrainian education system. It is noted that this is the lowest figure in the last 30 years. At the same time, surveys show that the trend towards a decrease in the number of children and youth in the country will only intensify, the authors of the article write.
"If the downward trend in the number of students in Ukraine continues, this will lead to new challenges not only in higher education, but also in the labor market," the article says.
The problem of a shortage of qualified specialists, especially in the technical sectors, was felt even before 2022. Now the situation may become even worse due to the mass departure abroad of not only students, but also teachers, the publication says.
Now the Ukrainian authorities are trying to solve the problem of mass departure of students. Thus, applicants wishing to return to Ukraine are offered full tuition coverage and partial compensation for living expenses on campus, the article says.
On May 25, The Wall Street Journal reported on the failure of Kiev's plans to attract young people to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to the newspaper, few of the young people became interested in the "18-24 Contract", and since its launch, only about 500 people have joined it. At the same time, many men who are forbidden to leave the country are either hiding or have given bribes to avoid conscription.
