A California jury has issued a verdict in a class action lawsuit, according to which Google was ordered to pay $314 million for the illegal use of Android users' mobile data. This was reported by Bloomberg on July 2.

This lawsuit was filed by residents of California in 2019. The company was accused of illegally using mobile Internet traffic to obtain information from Android users, for which they paid. According to the prosecution, the company could use all incoming data "to promote its corporate interests."

In particular, the publication clarified that the information obtained in an illegal way allowed the organization to create consumer-oriented advertising and expand its cartographic capabilities.

Google representative Jose Castaneda said that his corporation plans to appeal this verdict, with which he "strongly disagrees", since the information was obtained in accordance with user agreements.

"This decision is a setback for users, as it misinterprets services that are critical to the security, performance, and reliability of Android devices," he added.

CNBC reported on April 16 that a £5 billion ($6.6 billion) lawsuit was also filed against Google in Britain for abusing its "complete dominance" in the online search market. The class action lawsuit was filed on behalf of "hundreds of thousands" of organizations that used the corporation's services from 2011 until the filing of the document.
