Summer is a time of active recreation, travel and vivid impressions, and your gadget becomes an indispensable assistant in capturing moments and planning routes. However, high temperatures, direct sunlight and beach sand can seriously damage the device. On July 7, Alexander Dzhakonia, head of the Megafon Subscriber Equipment research and testing center, told Izvestia how to protect a smartphone.

Giaconia notes that even a short stay of a smartphone under the scorching sun can be fatal: the screen fades, the battery degrades, and the processor slows down at +35 degrees. Externally, the device may work normally in such conditions, but in fact it leads to accelerated wear of its components.

The specialist recommends avoiding direct contact of the gadget with sunlight, it is especially risky to leave it in a hot car, on a beach towel or an open table. If the shade is not available, heat-resistant covers will help, reducing the heating of the case and protecting the display from burnout.

But the danger lurks not only outside. As the expert explains, the summer heat increases the load on the "insides" of the device.: active processes, such as shooting 4K videos or running graphically complex games, force the processor to run at its limit, causing overheating.

"If overheating does occur, move the device to the shade, turn it off and let it cool down naturally. Attempts to speed up the process with ice or a refrigerator are comparable to shock therapy — the consequences can be irreversible," warns Jakonia.

High temperatures are just one of the threats to smartphones in summer. According to the expert, the main enemies of gadgets are water and sand. Salty sea spray causes corrosion, and fine grains of sand scratch the screen and clog the connectors. Jaconia advises using sealed cases or waterproof bags to protect the device from water and dust. If sand gets inside, it is better to contact specialists — attempts to clean the gadget with sharp objects can only aggravate the situation.

Even if the phone is positioned as waterproof, this does not guarantee its complete safety. Most models with IP68 protection are designed for short-term immersion in fresh water to a depth of 1-2 m and no more than 30 minutes. However, contact with seawater, sand, or chlorinated pool water may compromise the integrity of the device.

The devices with enhanced protection can withstand dives of 5-10 m and operate in extreme conditions — in the rain, in dust or with sudden temperature changes. Such models are often equipped with rubberized buttons, amplified speakers and cameras with underwater modes. But even they require regular care: with active use, the rubber elements lose their elasticity after 6-12 months.

For those who are not ready to part with the gadget even in extreme conditions, the expert recommends multi-layer protection: shockproof covers, heat-resistant films and bags for underwater photography. Regular inspection of accessories for cracks or wear, timely replacement of seals in the cases and reasonable care will help the smartphone survive the summer without loss.

On March 30, Dzhakonia told Izvestia how to maintain productivity and extend the life of the gadget. He noted that it is important to provide the smartphone with proper nutrition, as well as take care of protection from external factors. The case protects against scratches and acts as an airbag in case of a fall, softening the impact and saving the device's body.
