A criminal case against a mercenary from Spain was sent to court in Donetsk.


A mercenary from Spain is accused in absentia of participating in the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on July 1 by the Prosecutor's Office of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).
"The Prosecutor's Office of the Donetsk People's Republic has approved an indictment in a criminal case against a 28-year—old citizen of the Kingdom of Spain <...> He is charged in absentia under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict")," the material says.
In 2022, he joined the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Later, due to the reorganization, he joined the assault brigade.
It is specified that at first the Spaniard underwent military training, then received weapons, ammunition and uniforms for participation in hostilities. For this, he received a reward of 3 million rubles.
According to the press service of the department, the mercenary has been put on the international wanted list. At the moment, the criminal case has been sent to the Supreme Court of the DPR for consideration.
On June 30, a court in the DPR sentenced a mercenary from Georgia to 14 years in prison in absentia for participating in an armed conflict. In 2022, he joined one of the units as a mercenary. For participating in the fighting, the man received a reward of more than 2.9 million rubles.
