AvtoVAZ talked about improving the dynamics of the Niva with a new engine

Thanks to the new 1.8-liter engine, which AvtoVAZ will use to complete the updated Lada Niva Travel, the dynamic performance of the SUV will significantly improve. This was reported to the Izvestia correspondent on July 1 by Grigory Lychev, head of the Power Unit Design department.

"The fifth gear has been reinforced, as Niva owners with a powerful engine will use it more often. Acceleration time from 80 to 120 km/h decreased by 20 seconds. In addition, already at 1,000 revolutions, the engine reaches almost the same torque that the 1.7 engine can maximize, and improved cooling allows you to drive without overheating in the heat," Lychev shared.

The eight-valve 1.8 engine develops 90 hp and 153 Nm of torque, which is 7 forces and 24 Nm more than the 1.7-liter unit, which is currently equipped with the Niva family. Oleg Grunenkov, Director of Products and Programs at AVTOVAZ, pointed out the positive side of the fact that the engines do not have higher power.

"90 hp is the limit when AvtoVAZ does not pay the excise tax. Accordingly, we do not include this in the cost of the car and it does not fall on the shoulders of the buyers," Grunenkov said.

AvtoVAZ said that the eight-valve 1.8 provides high elasticity due to the torque at low and medium speeds. It is also stated to reduce specific fuel consumption and eliminate the risks of increased oil consumption. The company noted that the unit is easy to maintain and is 25 kg lighter than the eight-valve 1.7-liter engine.
