Hutsul called the charges against her a complete deception.

The bashkan of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, called the charges brought against her in the case of "illegal financing of political parties" a complete deception.

"I allegedly transported illegal financial resources to the Republic of Moldova in 2021. I have never brought a single leu [Moldova's national currency] to our country," Gutsul told reporters.

She noted that the criminal case against her should be annulled, as it is illegal. In addition, Hutsul noted that she was offered to resign as head of the autonomy in exchange for ending criminal prosecution.

The debate on the case of the head of Hutsul will continue on July 3.

The head of Gagauzia may be dismissed from office.

Hutsul was detained at the Chisinau airport on March 25 when her name was found on the list of persons prohibited from leaving the country. Later, the head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days, and on April 9, the court replaced her measure of restraint with house arrest. On May 12, the court decided to extend the house arrest for another 30 days, and it has been extended several times since.

Later that day, in court, prosecutors demanded that Hutsul be sentenced to nine years in prison in the case of "illegal financing of political parties."
