Party offices were raided in Germany on suspicion of embezzlement of funds

Police are conducting searches on suspicion of receiving illegal bonuses at the offices of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the Social Democratic Party (SPD), Alternative for Germany (AFD) in Saxony-Anhalt. This was reported by Tagesspiegel on July 1.
"We are conducting searches in the premises of the parliamentary groups of the CDU, SPD and AFD parties, because there is a suspicion of embezzlement," the newspaper quoted a representative of the Magdeburg prosecutor's office as saying.
It is specified that law enforcement officers suspect responsible persons in parliamentary groups of illegal payment of funds. The Taxpayers Federation notified the police about this.
According to the newspaper, the operation was carried out on the basis of judicial decisions of the Magdeburg District Court. According to Tagesspiegel, representatives of the parties stated that they could not provide any information at the moment.
On June 29, after the SPD at its congress supported the preparation of a court application to ban the right-wing AfD party, the Green Party called for immediate practical measures. Representatives of the faction noted that a lot of time has already been lost on this topic.
On the same day, the SPD voted to prepare for a ban on Alternatives for Germany. Such calls began to be made after the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classified the AFD as a right-wing extremist force. However, this classification is now being challenged by the party in court and has been temporarily suspended.
