On July 1, Alexander Alaev, President of the Russian Premier League (RPL), said that next season there is a threat to the integrity of the championship due to the situation with the Torpedo football club.

"Now the most pressing issue is with the participants of the championship. We will proceed from the decisions of the control and disciplinary committee [on the situation with Torpedo]. There is a threat to the integrity of the competition," Alaev said, quoted by TASS.

According to him, this offseason is the most difficult in recent times.

On June 20, Leonid Sobolev, the owner of the Torpedo football club, and Valery Skorodumov, the director, were charged with bribing a judge. It was noted that the defendants allegedly offered the chief referee over 1 million rubles for winning the match, awarding penalties to opponents or removing their player.

Later, the defense of the owner of Torpedo appealed against his arrest. According to lawyer Alexander Dobrovinsky, "there is no case as such," and the defendants are innocent.
