Biologist warned about the dangers and benefits of mulberry

Mulberry has a valuable composition, but it requires a careful approach — the berry can be poisoned. On July 1, Associate Professor of the Department of General Biology and Bioecology at the State University of Education, biologist Vitaly Polov, told Izvestia about the beneficial properties and potential risks of eating mulberries.

"Mulberries contain a whole complex of vitamins of groups B, K, A and H, as well as important trace elements such as potassium, magnesium, iron and antioxidants," said Polov.

The expert emphasized that with moderate consumption, the berry is no more dangerous than the usual raspberries or currants.

Despite this, the media reported that in the Saratov region, poisoned by mulberries, two children died, and one ended up in intensive care.

I explained half of it: the berry is valid and can be dangerous. He warned that mulberries should absolutely not be consumed on an empty stomach — this can cause poisoning with symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Allergy sufferers should be especially careful, as the berry contains lycopene and other allergenic substances that can provoke reactions up to Quincke's edema.

Half recommended to adhere to the daily intake: no more than 200 grams for adults and 100 grams for children.

"Mulberry should not be given to children under two years of age because of the high risk of allergic reactions," the specialist adds.

The biologist noted that if these simple rules are followed, mulberries can become a valuable addition to the diet, strengthening health and immunity. However, before introducing berries to the menu, especially for children and people with allergies, it is worth consulting a doctor.

On April 2, nutritionist Elena Solomatina said that if you have problems with the digestive tract, you should carefully choose foods, since the body needs to be adjusted. She noted that any mechanical effect of coarse food with a lot of fiber can have an irritating effect.
