- The survey showed that more than a third of Russians do not know the differences between OSAGO and CASCO

More than half of Russians do not know the meaning of the CTP abbreviation, and more than a third do not understand the differences between the mandatory "car insurance" and a hard hat. This was told to Izvestia by Avito Auto experts, who conducted a survey of 2,000 Internet users in honor of the 22nd anniversary of the introduction of CTP in Russia on July 1, 2003.
Thus, according to the survey results, 45% of respondents know the interpretation of CTP (compulsory motor liability insurance). At the same time, older people were more likely to answer this question correctly: 56% of participants aged 45-54 and 54% aged 35-44 chose the correct answer. Among young people aged 18-24, the correct answer was chosen in 23% of cases.
38% of respondents know exactly how OSAGO differs from CASCO. Participants aged 45-54 showed the highest level of knowledge about the difference between the two types of insurance (42%), while young people aged 18-24 were more likely to give inaccurate answers (47%). The first type of insurance is mandatory, it protects against compensation for damage caused to other participants in an accident. The second one is voluntary, which covers the damage caused to the car as a result of various risks, such as an accident (even through the fault of the car owner himself), theft, fire, natural disasters, vandalism and others.
Questions about what kind of damage CTP covers in the event of an accident caused difficulties for some of the respondents. 44% of the respondents correctly indicated that the policy provides for payment for the repair of the victim's car and/or compensation for damage to health. Among the participants aged 18-24, there were fewer of them — about 40% noted that they did not know exactly what risks this policy covers.
Earlier that day, it was reported that the system for checking drivers for an existing CTP policy in automatic mode from traffic cameras will work until November 1 of this year. As specified in the Ministry of Finance of Russia, the date of the beginning of bringing drivers to justice for their lack of a CTP policy using cameras has not yet been determined.
