The most popular types of viruses for scammers on the phone are named. This was reported on July 1 in the Telegram channel of the Department for the Organization of the Fight against the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

It is noted that malicious software can be of three types: spies (CraxsRAT), NFC Thieves (NFCGate) and hunters (Mamont).

CraxsRAT and similar "digital spies" are universal Trojans. They are most often disguised as applications of banks, "Public Services", or service programs of telecom operators or antiviruses. Its functionality includes reading all incoming/outgoing SMS messages (including confirmation codes for banks), call logs, instant messaging, identity theft, surveillance, and remote control.

NFCGate uses NFC technology to clone bank cards or redirect payments to an attacker's address. They disguise themselves as applications from banks or mobile operators.

Mamont specializes in stealing access to banking applications and marketplace accounts, searching for and intercepting SMS and push notifications, especially those containing transaction confirmation codes. They can disguise themselves as service applications or updates to legitimate programs.

On June 30, Irina Volk, an official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry, reported that law enforcement agencies had detained residents of St. Petersburg who were accomplices of telephone fraudsters who had defrauded about 120 people of 150 million rubles. A criminal case was opened into the incident.
