Zakharova responded to demands to sentence Hutsul to nine years in prison

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, on Tuesday, July 1, commenting on the demands of prosecutors in the case of the head of Gagauzia, Yevgenia Hutsul, announced the desire of Brussels to establish a "liberal dictatorship" in Europe.
The diplomat noted that nine years in prison and a five—year ban on holding public office is a demonstration of "European anti-values in action."
"Brussels is forging a liberal dictatorship from a hardworking country," Zakharova said on the Telegram channel.
On June 18, Ilan Shor, the leader of the Moldovan opposition political bloc Pobeda, announced that the Moldovan government was trying to isolate Hutsul for its policy, which was at odds with the course of the current pro-European leadership of the country. According to him, the head of Gagauzia is being persecuted for his independent position.
Hutsul was detained at the Chisinau airport on March 25 when her name was found on the list of persons prohibited from leaving the country. Later, the head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days, and on April 9, the court replaced her measure of restraint with house arrest. On May 12, the court decided to extend the house arrest for another 30 days, and it has been extended several times since.
