US President Donald Trump's decision to lift sanctions against Syria is a geopolitical reversal. This was stated on July 1 in an interview with Izvestia by political analyst Dmitry Brije.

"Trump's decision is not just an economic act, it is a geopolitical reversal that confirms the correctness of Russia's chosen line to protect Syria's sovereignty, support its people and restore its role as an independent strong state in the Middle East," the orientalist said.

He said that this decision could significantly change the political and economic situation in the region and open up an opportunity for dialogue between Washington and Damascus.

Bridge explained that the sanctions in force since 2004 have not only undermined the Syrian economy, but also limited access to vital technologies, medicines and investments.

"They were actually a form of collective punishment for the people of the Syrian Arab Republic, who had experienced war, terrorism and foreign interference. Today, when President Trump lifted the sanctions, he opened a window for the possibility of restoring the Syrian economy and, most importantly, for strengthening jurisdiction," the source stressed.

In addition, the political scientist drew attention to the prospects for Russian companies in Syria, noting that the lifting of restrictions opens the way for the implementation of large-scale energy, construction and agro-industrial projects. He expressed confidence that with the right government policy and attracting investments, Damascus will be able to restore its production facilities and take a key role in regional trade.

Evgeny Zlenko, an expert at the Polylogue Group, added that the lifting of sanctions is not a "concern for the Syrian people" on the part of the United States and is not part of the long-term American strategy in the Middle East. This move can be seen more as a political maneuver by Trump, characteristic of his eccentric style and beneficial in the current situation.

On June 30, Trump signed a decree on the lifting of sanctions against Syria from July 1. It clarifies that he allows the easing of export controls on certain goods and lifts restrictions on the provision of foreign aid to Damascus.
