Chinese used cars began to lose value rapidly
Relatively new Chinese used cars began to lose value rapidly. From January to June, such cars aged 1-3 years fell in price on the secondary market by an average of 10-15%, Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, said on July 1 in his Telegram channel.
"One of the reasons is related to the primary market, where sales are currently underway, and manufacturers and dealers are "measured" by the size of benefits and discounts. As a result, it is very difficult to sell a fresh used Chinese car on the secondary market. Rather, you can always sell, but only at a big discount," said Tselikov.
Thus, the average price of the popular Haval Jolion 2023 crossover on classifieds in January was 2.19 million rubles, and by June it had decreased to 1.95 million (-9%). The price of the same model, but a year older, dropped by 11% — from 1.9 to 1.7 million rubles.
The 2023 Geely Monjaro crossover cost 3.6 million rubles in January and 3.2 million rubles in June (-13%). The same 2022 model has fallen in price by 12%. Geely Coolray (2023) fell in price by 10% in six months — from 2.2 million to 2 million rubles, a similar decrease was recorded for cars in 2022.
Average prices for the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro decreased even more — cars produced in 2022 fell from 1.94 million to 1.7 million rubles (-12%), and in 2023 — from 2.2 million to 1.75 million rubles (-20%). Finally, the 2023 Chery Tiggo 4 Pro lost 11% in price (from 1.76 to 1.57 million rubles), and 15% in 2022 (from 1.65 million to 1.4 million rubles).
On June 26, it was reported that in the first five months of 2025, sales of used passenger cars of Chinese brands increased by 44% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 93.5 thousand units. At once, half of the secondary market of Chinese used cars is accounted for by cars under the age of three years inclusive.
