Prosecutor's office approves charges against blogger Ilya Varlamov

An indictment has been approved in the criminal case against blogger Ilya Varlamov (recognized as a foreign agent in Russia). This was reported on July 1 in the Telegram channel of the Moscow prosecutor's office.

"The Meshchanskaya interdistrict prosecutor's office has approved an indictment in a criminal case against Ilya Varlamov, a foreign agent," the publication says.

It is noted that the blogger was charged in absentia under Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Evading duties provided for by the legislation of the Russian Federation on foreign agents") and paragraph "d" of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public dissemination under the guise of reliable reports of deliberately false information containing data on the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Of the Russian Federation in order to protect the Russian Federation and its citizens, motivated by political hatred").

"The criminal case will be sent to the Meshchansky District Court for consideration on the merits. In relation to Varlamov, who was put on the interstate wanted list, a preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen in absentia," the department added.

They pointed out that Varlamov continues to publish materials without the appropriate labeling of a foreign agent, despite two administrative fines during the year for non-compliance with this requirement. The prosecutor's office clarified that the blogger publicly disseminated deliberately false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation during a special military operation (SVO) under the guise of reliable information.
