Trump signed a decree on the lifting of sanctions against Syria in force since 2004.

The American leader Donald Trump signed a decree on the lifting of sanctions against Syria on July 1. The relevant document was published on the White House website on June 30.
"Today, President Donald Trump signed a historic decree ending the sanctions program against Syria in order to support the country's path to stability and peace," the publication says.
The decree, in particular, allows for the easing of export controls on certain goods and lifts restrictions on the provision of foreign aid to Syria. It clarifies that sanctions against former President Bashar al-Assad and his associates, as well as human rights violators, drug traffickers, persons associated with the creation of chemical weapons, and a number of others will remain in force.
In addition, the US president instructed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to review Syria's status as a state sponsor of terrorism and "explore the possibilities of easing UN sanctions" to maintain stability in the republic.
Rubio announced on May 23 that the United States had suspended sanctions against Damascus for 180 days in order to provide the country with electricity, water and humanitarian aid. He also stressed that the relevant measures were the first step towards new bilateral relations between the states.
