Nikita Vasiliev, the former senior coach of the Russian national freestyle skiing team, died while performing a combat mission. This was announced on June 30 by the press service of the Russian Freestyle Federation.

"The Russian Freestyle Skiing Federation expresses its deepest condolences to Nikita's family, friends and colleagues. His passing is a great loss for us and Russian freestyle skiing," reads a statement posted on the federation's official website.

It is noted that over the years Vasiliev has prepared many winners and prize-winners of national and international competitions. The federation stressed that he was an example of love for his country, perseverance and bravery.

Vasiliev died at the age of 36. He was an honored coach of the Chuvash Republic. Vasiliev worked as a senior coach of the Russian national freestyle skiing team for seven years.
