Azerbaijani security forces detained two Russian journalists in Baku — Igor Kartavykh, head of the editorial office of Sputnik Azerbaijan, and Evgeny Belousov, editor-in-chief. This was reported by the news agency on June 30.
"They have been absurdly accused of being 'FSB agents,'" the newspaper wrote on its Telegram channel.
It is also noted that employees of the Russian Embassy were not allowed to visit the detainees.
On the same day, it was reported that Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies were conducting an operation at the office of the Sputnik Azerbaijan news agency. According to Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya media group and RT TV channel, employees of the Russian embassy went to the agency's office.
The Azerbaijani ambassador was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry in connection with Baku's unfriendly actions.
