Russia is ready to resume direct flights with the Dominican Republic, and the first flights may begin as early as the winter season. This was announced on June 30 by the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.

"The resumption of direct scheduled and charter flights was discussed with partners from the Dominican Republic by Deputy Minister of Transport Vladimir Poteshkin," the department wrote on its Telegram channel.

It is reported that the meeting took place on the initiative of the Dominican side. The Ministry of Transport noted that flights between the two countries were suspended due to sanctions against Russian aviation.

"Before the pandemic, passenger traffic exceeded 400,000 people," the statement said.

It is noted that the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Russia expressed confidence that Russian tourists would be welcome in the country.

On April 30, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called productive talks with his Dominican counterpart Roberto Alvarez. The minister also clarified that Russia and the Dominican Republic have agreed to establish ties between the business circles of the two countries. On the same day, Lavrov held a working meeting with President of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader.
