An analysis of insurance claims last year showed that the most common problems in apartments when the owners are on vacation are floods, fires and thefts. Yulia Serova, head of the Rosgosstrakh Property and Liability Insurance Department, told Izvestia about the main dangers that could await empty apartments of Russians during the summer holiday season on July 1.

According to the company's statistics, bays occupy the first place among insurance claims — they account for 34% of claims. The reason may be plumbing problems in the neighbors above, as well as problems in their own apartment.

"Before leaving, you should definitely check the condition of the pipes and shut off the inlet taps. This simple action will help to avoid serious consequences in the form of damaged flooring, furniture and household appliances," Serova recommends.

Fires, although they occur less frequently (12% of cases), cause the most significant damage. Last season, the largest payout was 5.6 million rubles, which is how much the clients whose apartment was damaged by fire in their absence received. The expert warns about the danger of electrical appliances left in sockets, and also advises to remove aerosol cans from window sills and balconies, which can explode in the sun.

Apartment thefts account for about 4% of insurance claims. According to Rosgosstrakh, criminals often monitor social networks and purposefully choose apartments whose owners are on vacation. Experts recommend that you refrain from publishing vacation photos in real time and, if possible, arrange with your neighbors to periodically check the apartment.

"Unfortunately, it is impossible to completely eliminate all threats, as well as remotely monitor the situation at home during the holidays. However, we can minimize the risks and be more prudent. It is important to carefully check all possible sources of danger before leaving," Serova stressed.

According to her, insurance would not be superfluous. It will provide financial protection and will allow, if necessary, to settle the claims of neighbors.

Earlier, on April 24, it was reported that the average price of 1 sq.m. m in the primary housing market of "old" Moscow has reached 685.3 thousand rubles. Over the year, the indicator increased by 25.2%. This follows from the data of the real estate and consulting company "Metrium". At the same time, in the most expensive district, Tverskoy— the average price of a "square" in 2025 exceeded 3 million rubles for the first time.
