- The Federation Council reacted to Armenia's plans to start military cooperation with the EU

Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council's International Affairs Committee, Senator Andrei Klimov, commenting on Armenia's plans to cooperate with the European Union (EU) in the defense sector on Monday, June 30, noted that Russia respects the sovereignty and independence of the republic.
"It is very difficult to combine the desire to join several different organizations at the same time, but since we are talking about a sovereign state, we respect the sovereignty and independence of Armenia, the choice is up to their citizens, primarily their authorities, who were legitimately elected there," Senatov said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
According to the politician, the consequences will depend on what decision the officials in Yerevan come to and how the citizens react to it.
Earlier in the day, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said that Armenia and the European Union (EU) have started discussing cooperation in the field of security and defense, writes Life.Ru .
He called the start of consultations an important step for building bilateral cooperation that meets modern challenges.
