The situation around the journalists of the Sputnik Azerbaijan editorial office in Baku is under the control of the Permanent Commission of the Human Rights Council (HRC) under the President of the Russian Federation. This was reported in the press service of the council on Monday, June 30.
"The Permanent Commission of the HRC on Human Rights in the Information Sphere and the Union of Journalists of Russia are monitoring the situation around the editorial office of Sputnik Azerbaijan in Baku," the Telegram channel says.
Earlier in the day, Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya media group and RT TV channel, stated in her Telegram channel that Sputnik Azerbaijan employees were not in touch after reports of an operation in the editorial office by the republic's law enforcement agencies.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Russia was concerned about the lack of communication with Russian journalists in Baku. She noted that law enforcement officers do not allow Russian Embassy staff to reach journalists and do not specify the reasons for their actions.
Earlier, on June 29, the country's Ministry of Culture decided to cancel all events in Azerbaijan that were planned by Russian institutions in the country. This decision was connected with the detention by the Yekaterinburg police of gang members in the Sverdlovsk region, which includes Azerbaijanis.
