Alexander Umnov, a lecturer at the Department of Surgery at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, spoke on Monday, June 30, about stroke prevention.

The specialist noted that the main risk factors are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity. According to him, to avoid irreversible consequences, blood pressure monitoring is needed twice a day. Umnov clarified that if young people have high blood pressure, 140 over 80, then they should consult a cardiologist.

"Pregnant women are at risk. As for obesity, the main advice here is to try not to lead a sedentary and recumbent lifestyle. If you work remotely, then you should definitely do exercises, moderate workouts, and set aside time for walks during the daytime. This is necessary so that the blood flow goes more actively from the head and to the head," he said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The expert emphasized that a low-activity lifestyle contributes to stroke no less than alcohol and smoking. He added that in diabetes, high blood sugar levels can damage blood vessels and nerve endings. Patients with poorly controlled diabetes are at risk, he concluded.

In turn, Ilkin Hasanov, cardiologist at SM Clinic, told in an interview with Life.ru that one of the main threats is excessive salt intake. It retains fluid in the body, which increases blood pressure, and hypertension is a major risk factor for stroke.

Earlier, on June 25, Stanislav Ionov, Professor of the Department of Therapy at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, said that the symptoms preceding a stroke depend on its cause.

According to the doctor, hemorrhagic stroke occurs with hypertension, when blood vessels rupture and hemorrhage occurs in the brain. If a stroke has developed as a result of a hypertensive crisis, then the symptoms preceding it are caused by high blood pressure and vasospasm: headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness.
