Toyota RAV4 became the best-selling car in the world

The Toyota RAV4 crossover, also known as the Wildlander in a number of markets, has become the best-selling car in the world by the end of 2024. This is reported by the CarBuzz portal with reference to data from an analyst at the research company JATO Dynamics.
Last year, almost 1.19 million Toyota RAV4 crossovers were sold worldwide, which is 11% more than a year earlier. In second place was the global bestseller of 2023, the Tesla Model Y electric car, which lost only 2 thousand units to the Japanese model in terms of sales. The sales rate of the American electric car decreased by 3% over the year. By the end of 2023, RAV4 took the second place in the rating.
In total, five Toyota cars are among the top ten best-selling passenger cars in the world. The third place went to the Toyota Corolla Cross (Frontlander), followed by the Honda CR-V (Breeze) and Toyota Corolla (Levin). The Toyota Hilux pickup truck opened the second five, followed by the Ford F-150, Toyota Camry and Tesla Model 3. The top ten is rounded out by the only Chinese model in it, the BYD Qin sedan.
None of the above models is currently officially represented on the Russian market.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that in 2005, new cars with automatic transmissions accounted for about 20% of sales in Russia (one in five cars), but by 2025 the share reached 70% for the first time, and by the end of the first half of 2025 exceeded it.
On May 21, Toyota introduced the new generation RAV4 crossover. The brand's bestseller in the sixth generation will be offered only by hybrid power plants, sales will start at the end of 2025, the model will be presented in the markets of more than 180 countries.
