The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have faced problems in maintaining their positions in the Sumy region and are forced to plug "holes" in the defense. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal on June 29.

According to the newspaper, holding positions in the Sumy region costs the Ukrainian army heavy losses and a waste of significant resources. It is specified that for this, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have to transfer elite units to the front line.

Earlier this month, Ukraine dispatched elite special forces units from its directorate of military intelligence, known as the GUR, to help stabilize the situation.

On May 21, former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukrainian parliamentarian Dmitry Razumkov called for an end to the conflict with the Russian Federation due to the deteriorating capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to hold the line of contact with each passing month. Razumkov added that it is increasingly difficult for Ukraine to maintain stability not only at the front, but also in the economy.
