In Ukraine, charges were brought against an official who was engaged in illegal mining in the Cherkasy region, which caused damage to the state in the amount of 190 million hryvnias ($ 4.5 million). This was announced by the national police on June 30.

"The head of one of the departments of the enterprise promoted the extraction of minerals in violation of the requirements of current legislation. In particular, mining operations were carried out outside the limits of a special permit for the use of subsurface resources and the calculation contour of their reserves estimated by the state. Such actions of the official led to almost 190 million hryvnias of losses to the state," the statement published on the agency's website says.

It is specified that he was charged under Part 4 of Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("Violation of the rules for the protection or use of mineral resources"). The official faces up to eight years in prison, and the issue of choosing a preventive measure is currently being resolved.

In April, the Pechersk District Court of Kiev seized the sites of the Polokhov lithium deposit. It was noted that the arrest was carried out due to an investigation into the alleged illegal obtaining of a permit for lithium mining. A total of 51 police stations were arrested by court order.
