The adoption of the 18th package of sanctions against Russia in the European Union (EU) has been postponed due to disagreements with a number of countries. This was reported by Politico on June 30.

According to him, the final decision on it may be made on July 1, already under the chairmanship of Denmark in the association.

At the moment, Slovakia and Hungary have slowed down the adoption of the sanctions package. Both countries have demanded energy guarantees from the European Commission (EC). In particular, Slovakia, according to the newspaper, refuses to sign the document in an effort to obtain concessions under the REPowerEU program, the EU's plan to abandon Russian gas.

On June 26, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stressed that restrictions against a country like Russia do not work. He pointed out that the sanctions policy makes sense precisely when it really has an impact.
