A resident of the Penovsky district of the Tver region was sentenced to 7 years and 8 months for possession of mines during the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This was reported on June 30 by the regional prosecutor's office.
"The Penovsky district Prosecutor's Office has supported the state prosecution against a 44-year-old local resident. He was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal acquisition and storage of explosive devices")," reads a statement published on the official website of the department.
It is noted that in 2024, the accused acquired six explosive mines from the time of the Great Patriotic War and kept them at home until they were seized by the police.
According to the prosecutor's office, the man was sentenced to 7 years and 8 months in a strict regime penal colony, and also fined 80 thousand rubles.
On May 19, a 1939 military shell was found in the garbage chute of a multi-storey building on Novorogorskaya Street in Moscow. Firefighters evacuated 20 residents from the fifth to the seventh floor. The shell was handed over to the sappers for examination.
