Lavrov expressed concern about attacks on the Armenian Church


The situation in Armenia is an internal matter of the country, but the attacks on the church are causing concern. This was announced on June 30 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"It is clear that this is an internal matter of our neighbors, but, of course, attacks on the canonical thousand-year—old Armenian Apostolic Church are of the greatest concern," Lavrov told reporters following a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). in Kyrgyzstan.
The minister clarified that Russia is interested in ending the attacks on the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC), as well as in resolving the situation as soon as possible based on full respect for the rights of believers.
Archbishop Mikael Ajapakhyan of the Armenian Apostolic Church was detained on June 27. The Investigative Committee of Armenia has opened a criminal case against him on calls to overthrow the government in the country. In turn, Armenian lawyer Varazdat Harutyunyan stated that the criminal case against the archbishop on calls to seize power is absurd from a legal point of view.
