- Russian Ambassador Korchunov noted the limited growth potential of Norwegian gas supplies

Norway's share in the gas market of the European Union (EU) and the UK has increased due to reduced purchases of Russian gas, but the supply growth potential is limited. This was announced on June 30 by Russian Ambassador to Oslo Nikolai Korchunov.
According to him, due to the energy crisis in Europe, Norway was able to consolidate its position as the largest gas exporter to the EU and make good money.
"Against the background of a reduction in purchases from Russia, Norway's share in the EU and UK gas markets has increased from 20-25% to more than 30%," the ambassador said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
At the same time, Korchunov stressed, Oslo's ability to further increase supplies is limited or even exhausted due to the projected depletion of the country's resources located on the continental shelf.
The Reuters news agency reported on June 17 that the European Commission (EC) proposed a ban on imports of pipeline and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia by the end of 2027. According to him, imports under long-term contracts will be prohibited from January 1, 2028.
