- The media reported on the plans of the United States and India to sign a comprehensive trade agreement
The United States and India are preparing to sign a comprehensive trade agreement in the fall. This was reported by Politico newspaper on June 29, citing sources.
"The trade agreement with India was supposed to be one of the first victories of US President Donald Trump," the publication noted.
According to the newspaper, despite the progress of Washington and New Delhi in forming and signing the treaty, this document may meet resistance from the residents of India.
"Nothing angers Indians more than the idea that their government is being bullied by a foreign leader," said Syed Akbaruddin, a former Indian ambassador to the United Nations.
Earlier, on May 20, India discussed a three-stage trade deal with the United States, hoping to reach an interim agreement before retaliatory US trade duties take effect in July. It is specified that in the interim agreement, the leaders of the two countries considered such areas as access to the market of industrial goods and certain types of agricultural products, as well as the elimination of a number of non-tariff barriers, such as quality control requirements.
