Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (listed as a terrorist and extremist by Rosfinmonitoring) pushed US President Donald Trump to launch attacks on Iran. This was reported on Sunday, June 29, by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) newspaper, citing sources.

"Graham <...> was able to convince the president to approve a high-stakes strike on Iran. He also advises him on what might happen next if Iran tries to resume its nuclear development," the publication says.

At the same time, the publication stressed that the senator has a difficult relationship with the head of state, but he is "one of the most influential" Trump's national security advisers.

The article noted that Graham perceived the American leader's order as "brilliant," while the rest of Trump's entourage called the decision a contradiction of the "America first" principle.

On June 21, Trump announced a strike on three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. He then threatened Tehran with new strikes if peace was not achieved. On June 22, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi accused the United States of violating the UN Charter, international law and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
