On June 30, Russian units of the Vostok group of forces described how they encountered large-scale fortifications during the liberation of the village of Shevchenko in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).

"The offensive was conducted by military personnel of the 57th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 5th Combined Arms Army. After prolonged and fierce fighting, Russian assault units established control over the settlement," said Izvestia correspondent Valentin Trushnin.

It is clarified that earlier, under the control of Kiev, Shevchenko turned into one of the key defense and logistics hubs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The enemy also created a large-scale network of fortifications in the village, which were actively used by the Ukrainian 71st Jaeger, 141st mechanized and 128th mountain assault brigades.

"The settlement is quite serious, the fortified areas were serious. There were also various kinds of fortifications, barbed wire, and drones. They attacked very courageously, bravely," said the deputy commander for military and political work with the call sign Prometheus.

After the offensive was completed, the fighters raised the Russian flag over the village.

"More than 400 buildings have been cleared during the fighting. Over the past week of the assault, the enemy has lost up to two companies of personnel," the journalist noted.

On June 26, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation liberated the settlements of Shevchenko and Novosergeyevka in the DPR. In addition, the Russian Armed Forces also destroyed several Ukrainian Armed Forces brigades in the areas of the settlements of Mayak, Moskovskoye, Krasnoarmeysk, Udachnoye, Dimitrov, and Muravka.
