Honored Table Tennis coach of the Russian Federation Evgeny Edel has died at the age of 76.

Evgeny Edel, Honored coach of the Russian Federation and Master of Sports of the USSR in table tennis, died after a long illness. This was announced on Sunday, June 29, by the press service of the Russian Table Tennis Federation.

The coach was 76 years old. He led the national teams of Russia and Moscow for years.

"Edel started working in the distant 70s, he brought up a large number of high-class tennis players, many of whom became the glory of Russian table tennis," the federation said in a message on the VKontakte social network.

He was a mentor to Maxim Shmyrev, Alexey Smirnov, Alexey Liventsov, Kirill Skachkov, Ekaterina Edel, Yulia Prokhova, Olga Vorobyova and many other famous tennis players.

The Federation expressed its condolences to the coach's family.
