Senior Iranian officials are interested in starting negotiations with the administration of US President Donald Trump, but they have to wait for the approval of the supreme leader of the state, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. This was reported on June 29 by The Jerusalem Post (JP) newspaper, citing a source.

"The Iranians have expressed interest in holding talks with the Trump administration, despite their public statements to the contrary, but the final decision remains with Khamenei," the publication says.

It is noted that it remains unclear whether the lack of approval from Khamenei at the moment is a consequence of his refusal to allow dialogue in general, or difficulties in relations with the American leader.

On June 27, Trump announced that the United States would launch new attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities if it received intelligence about the dangerous level of uranium enrichment in the Islamic Republic. In addition, the American leader stressed that he does not believe that Iran has secret nuclear facilities and is not worried about this. In his opinion, Tehran is busy rebuilding the country after the attacks from Washington.
