- WP found out about the surprise of Iranian officials by insufficiently powerful US strikes

The intercepted confidential correspondence of Iranian officials showed that the authorities of the Islamic Republic expected more devastating US strikes than those that were actually carried out. This was reported on June 29 by The Washington Post (WP) newspaper, citing sources.
"The United States has received intercepted correspondence between senior Iranian officials discussing US military strikes on Iran's nuclear program this month and noting that the attack was less destructive than they expected," the publication says.
It is reported that the information received provides a broader picture of the situation in the Middle East than that presented to the public by US President Donald Trump. So, he stated that the United States military operation in Iran allegedly "completely and definitively destroyed" the country's nuclear program.
"The Trump administration did not dispute the existence of the intercepted message, which had not been previously reported, but categorically disagreed with the Iranians' conclusions and questioned their ability to assess damage at three nuclear facilities that became targets of the American operation," the newspaper informs.
On June 28, it became known about the work of Iranian construction crews at the site of the US strike on the Fordo nuclear facility. It was clarified that they were engaged in work on the surface of the uranium enrichment plant.
On June 21, Trump announced a strike on three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. He then threatened Tehran with new strikes if peace was not achieved. On June 22, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi accused the United States of violating the UN Charter, international law and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
