Latvian poet and deputy of the Riga City Council Liana Langa said on June 29 that the country urgently needs to strengthen civil defense, for this all residents should be informed about security measures.

In her opinion, responsible persons should be appointed in each region of Latvia and in Riga, the capital of the country, who, in case of an alarming situation, will accurately inform the population where to go, where the weapons are located, and what responsibilities are assigned to whom.

The MP urged not to delay preparations for possible threats. In her opinion, against the background of growing international tension, the idea of universal defense should be implemented in every locality.

On June 23, Bloomberg reported that the leaders of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia called on the European Union (EU) to allocate a large amount of funds to strengthen their borders. A letter from the leaders of these countries was sent to Ursula von der Leyen, Head of the European Commission (EC), and Antonio Costa, President of the European Council. According to media reports, the heads of state called for increased funding for border defense in connection with Russia's alleged destabilizing activities.
