The lifting of US sanctions related to the Paks-2 NPP project in Hungary is a key precedent. This opinion was expressed on June 29 by Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries.

"This is a key precedent: energy security is more important than ideology, the cancellation of the failed policy of [former US President Joe] Biden, pragmatism is higher than ineffective pressure," Dmitriev wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

He also called Hungary the winner, accompanying the message with a Hungarian flag.

On the same day, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto announced that the United States had lifted a number of sanctions against Russia that prevented the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant in Hungary under the Rosatom project. Later, the state corporation confirmed this information.
