Rosatom confirmed the lifting by the United States of sanctions preventing the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant

The United States has decided to withdraw from financial sanctions a number of Russian banks and insurance companies involved in nuclear energy projects, including the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant in Hungary. This was announced on June 29 by the press service of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom.

"OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Treasury. An important decision was made to exclude from American financial sanctions the activities of a number of Russian banks and insurance companies on projects related to nuclear energy, including the Paks-2 project," the statement said.

According to the company, this decision will speed up the implementation of the project, which Rosatom is implementing jointly with its Hungarian partners.

On the same day, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto announced that the United States had lifted a number of sanctions against Russia that prevented the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant in Hungary under the Rosatom project.
