During a telephone conversation, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and French President Emmanuel Macron agreed to intensify cooperation between the two countries. This was reported by Sputnik Armenia on June 29.

"They (Pashinyan and Macron — Ed.) agreed to intensify bilateral cooperation in a number of areas, while Macron, for his part, "supported the reform agenda in Armenia," the article says.

It is noted that the leaders also discussed the bilateral agenda and a number of international issues. According to the agency, the conversation took place against the background of information that appeared in the media about the burial of French nuclear waste in Armenia.

In addition, Macron posted on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter) an Armenian-language post expressing support for Pashinyan amid the protests in Armenia.

"I expressed France's solidarity in response to attempts to destabilize Armenia's democracy," the French leader wrote.

On June 20, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said that Russia fears the strengthening of Armenia's European integration, as this may affect the Transcaucasian republic's decision to close its airspace to Russian aircraft, as was done by European countries earlier. In addition, the cargo transportation system may be disrupted. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, "it is impossible not to pay attention to this."
