It is absolutely necessary for European countries to start a dialogue with Russia. This opinion was expressed by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini on June 29.

"We need to start negotiations with the Russian Federation. Let's find two or three leaders. For example, the Prime Minister of [Italy] Georgia Meloni," the Slovak leader said in the program "In Politics" on the TA3 TV channel.

He noted that he fully shares the position of Prime Minister Robert Fico, who demands that the European Commission (EC) provide guarantees for Slovakia's energy security in the event of the adoption of the 18th package of sanctions against Russia. As of January 1, 2028, the EU imposes a ban on the import of energy resources from the Russian Federation.

On June 25, French President Emmanuel Macron said at a press conference after the NATO summit in The Hague that it was time for the EU countries to think about the conditions for dialogue with Russia in order to return to the path of restoring trust. At the same time, Macron stressed that Europe needs to rearm itself to confront Russia.
