- A passenger of a boat that caught fire in the Sea of Japan told about the details of the incidents

The captain of the Merlion boat, which caught fire in Peter the Great Bay in the Sea of Japan on June 29, tried to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher, but could not turn it on. One of the passengers of the ship told Izvestia about this.
"I woke up to the fact that there was a burning smell. We saw the captain running around with a fire extinguisher, and he couldn't turn it on. <...> When the fire was already big, he started shouting: "Jump, otherwise you will all die," the woman shared, suggesting that an explosion in the kitchen could be a possible cause of the fire.
She clarified that the catamaran, designed for 12 people, had about 20 passengers and three crew members. According to the woman, there were no lifebuoys on the ship. People managed to escape by jumping onto another boat passing nearby.
"No one came, no one put out anything. <...> A female travel agent met us, there were no medics there," the passenger added.
The fire on the Merlion boat occurred earlier in the day. According to the Izvestia source, the incident occurred about 500 m from the shore of the island of Shkota on a catamaran. According to preliminary information, no one was injured as a result of the fire. A criminal case has been opened into the incident regarding violations of the rules of operation of water transport.
