New shipments of American Abrams tanks from Australia to Ukraine are unlikely to change the situation on the battlefield. Military Watch Magazine wrote about this on Saturday, June 28.
According to the author of the material, unlike the new Abrams tanks previously transferred from the United States, those sent by Australia have already served for decades and are badly worn out.
"Unlike the newly built Abrams tanks previously transferred by the United States, 49 additional tanks from Australia have already served for decades and are considered completely worn out, which is expected to significantly reduce their readiness level and increase maintenance requirements," the material says.
The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reported on September 20, 2024 that Australia was considering the possibility of supplying Ukraine with decommissioned Abrams tanks. It was clarified that Kiev had repeatedly asked Australia for supplies. At the same time, decommissioned military equipment, including patrol cars, armored personnel carriers and off-road vehicles, were put up for sale on trading floors in Australia.
The New York Times (NYT), citing Ukrainian officials in March 2025, reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost 19 Abrams tanks out of 31, the rest were withdrawn from the line of contact.
