The immunologist named a way to completely get rid of allergies in five years

Allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT method) helps to eliminate the symptoms of an allergic reaction in five years. About this method on June 28, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by allergist-immunologist, doctor of the highest category and head of the Allergology department of the European Medical Center (EMC) Karine Vardanyan.

"The principle of the method is to receive small doses of allergen under the tongue. These can be drops or pills. There is also an injectable method of allergen administration. <...> The full course of treatment usually takes from three to five years," the allergist noted.

According to the doctor, the method is usually used for respiratory tract diseases that have arisen as an allergic reaction, and is indicated for the treatment of allergies to pollen, dust, animal hair and mold.

At the same time, Vardanyan stressed that the beginning of the course of treatment depends on the type of allergen.

"In case of pollen allergy, ASIT is recommended to start four months before the flowering season. In the case of household allergens, therapy can be carried out at any time of the year," the allergist shared.

The expert said that the method has its own contraindications, and therefore a doctor's consultation is needed. However, after completing the course of treatment, in most patients, the symptoms subside or disappear completely.
