California Governor sues Fox News for Defamation

The governor of California in the United States, Gavin Newsom, announced that he had filed a lawsuit against the Fox News channel. As the politician explained on his page on the social network X (Earlier Twitter) on Saturday, June 28, the reason was slander against him.
"I just sued Fox News for lying, deception and misrepresentation. They've had enough of lying. We'll see them in court," Newsom said.
The governor stressed that he was going to collect an amount of $787 million from the TV channel.
As CNN noted, the reason for the lawsuit was the situation with a telephone conversation between Newsom and US President Donald Trump during the riots in Los Angeles. The American leader claimed that he had spoken to News on the phone, and then the California governor denied these words on social networks. After that, Fox News anchor Jesse Waters accused Newsom of lying.
On June 8, mass protests began in California, they occurred after a police raid to identify illegal migrants, during which 45 people were detained. On the same day, Trump ordered the National Guard to be sent to the state to stop the riots. The governors of 22 states condemned this, regarding the decision as an "abuse of power."
